Major General Sir William Throsby Bridges

He was born in Scotland on 18 February 1861. He served with Australian forces during World War I. He was the first Australian general to be killed during the Gallipoli Battle. On this battle he was the commander of 1st Australian Division and he landed at Anzac Cove. On 15 May 1915 while he was touring the lines he was shot by Turkish sniper. He lost so much blood till he was evacuated to the hospital. When he died his body was returned to Melbourne
